New Diy Stereo

I finally built the stereo for my truck. It all cost about 40 dollars but performs more like a 200 dollar system. The boxes were designed and tested by me.

We also found the original order sheet behind the seat.
Sadly it was far to brittle to remove.

Long time no Post

Well it's been a long time since I've posted something so i just thought I'd put in a quick update. Two weeks ago the timing went out on the truck so we replaced the ignition coil and points. The ignition coil is a MSD Blaster 2 the truck is running great so far. Next thing on the to do list is exhaust fixing and new mufflers fix up the carb, new steering wheel , paint and interior.

Fixing the Mega Leak

After the massive hole in the exhaust manifold we went to go buy some exhaust system sealant. We didn't expect it to do much but I'd have to say it worked pretty darn well. The engine is silent (except for 1 noisy lifter) it's wonderful. Pictures soon

Mega-Leak Manifold Monday

Yes, I know its tuesday BUT! I took these pictures yesterday ha-ha. Anways on to the leaky manifold. As most of the people who have seen and heard the truck know, it's louder than most other trucks. We've known we had an exhaust leak since day one and I quote "Hey dad I like the sound of the truck!" Dad:"It's an exhaust leak" Me:"Oh.... Oh well still sounds cool". Anyways on with the story. We thought the manifold was either 1. loose on the block or 2. had a bad gasket. What we saw when we took off the heat riser was quite a shocker (I'll post a before heat riser removal and after). There was a huge crack in the manifold!!! HUGE! The only thing keeping it quiet was the darn heat shield which was burned to a crisp.

Hub Cap Cleaning and wheel hub painting

Long time no post yes I know. A couple weekends ago on a nice sunny day I decided to clean my hubcaps and paint the underwheels after about and hour or so this is what I got.

Radio Magic

Yesterday (March 16th,2008) my dad and I took a ride in the truck. While riding around I got bored and decided to fiddle with the radio. To my surprise it turned on! It never ever ever turned on before and I had just about given up on it, but it lit up no sound but it lit up. When we arrived at the house we turned off the truck and put it in ACC and turned the radio up as high as it would go and there was.... SOUND!!! not loud barely audible (bad speaker I'll fix it this weekend) but it was working pretty exciting if you ask me.

Testing the Truck

Today I took a good look at my truck and after reading my 69' Service manual I decided to take a look at my air filter. If you can see in the photos it's a bit different it's equipped with a heat stove to make sure all air coming in is above 100 degrees F. It is run by vacuum a thermostat decides to let vacuum through or not depending on temperature. It should let vacuum through at this temperature but would not, so to get past this I bypassed the sensor and hooked it straight to the vacuum motor. Lo and Behold it opened correctly but shortly after I heard an audible POP and it had closed. Looks like I need a new vacuum motor and sensor. Let's call Delco AC! they can help.... not. Anyone got any ideas what I should do? It has an exhaust leak on the left manifold, so if we replace that we can get a regular manifold getting rid of the heat stove, which would let us get a new carburetor. Time to go ponder the great ponder-able

More truck work

This Friday I recieved my 1969 Chevy Truck service book that book has everything in it. I could build my own truck with parts basically. Anyways we did some more painting and i guess a little spray paint goes a long way. Only problems we had was some of the paint "bubbled up" i'm not sure if it was heat or what but we'll professionaly do it someday this is temporary. This weekend we fixed some old vacuum hoses cleaned up some more painted replaced and fixed all running lights and that about sums up the weekend work.

The Chevy has Landed

Well, its been a while since I've blogged sorry about that. However,I have been somewhat busy taking care of my truck which is now located in my front yard. Me and my dad brought the truck home about 2 weeks ago. So far we have found out the truck needs a transmission rebuild, metal patch( small penny sized rust hole in driver side floor),new dash, fix oil gauge, replace all fuses, exhaust manifold leak, reconnect radio to power , and find a new tube for the defrosters. Pictures on the way soon!

Starter Problems

Recently I went to see my truck ( its a 154 miles north of here in a town called Stonyford which is in the middle of nowhere) on the 28th of December. My dad and I had driven up for the second time to see the truck. Last time we had gotten it to start and went for a quick 5 minute drive. This time we came more prepared. We had new battery, new fan belt, engine oil, transmission oil, and our trusty toolbox. We expected to drop in the new battery and be off to get some new tires. But Lo and behold it did nothing. The starter motor which we had trouble with previously was dead, it refused to crank and when it did it was pitiful. We were very disappointed and decided to take the starter off. We took the starter off messed with it and reattached it and hoped for the best. It was like magic we tried it and prayed and it started we soon had it out for a drive and brought it in. Sadly we couldn't start it again. So we went to Napa Auto parts and got a new starter hope to try it out this weekend.

First Post

Well If your reading this your obviously interested in my truck (or you might just be bored and surfing the web). My truck is a 1969 Chevy C10 Longbed truck. I will post updates along the way as I restore my truck to its former glory!
